Worden House Wedding Photography. Heidi and Robert.

Heidi and Robert came to Worden House in Dartmouth, Devon for a halloween fancy dress party and then a wedding. It was a small intimate affair with just close friends and relatives.  One of those weddings where everyone present has travelled quite some distance to be there and so you know these people are important...

Wedding photography in Cornwall.

A cryptic title to be sure. What follows is a wedding which took place in Cornwall at the end of this summer just passed. Ash and Lizzie held their wedding at home in their back garden and then their reception was in a Tipi in the field next door. Friends camped in the field, there...

Pictures that mean something to someone.

I’ve heard it said that if you have to write about a picture then it’s not a very good picture. That’s nonsense. For me if there’s nothing you can say about a picture then it’s probably not a very good picture. Take this picture for example. There’s lots I could tell you about it.  There’s...

2017 My Top Twenty

So pop pickers it’s that time of year again when wedding photographers across the land start spamming social media with what they call their best shots of the year in an attempt to persuade you to book them for your wedding. Odd really because you would have thought their best shots were in their portfolio...

Bennetts Water Gardens Wedding Photography.

Sally and Stacey’s wedding was slightly unusual in that it was spread over two days. First they had an intimate wedding at Taunton registry office, followed by lunch for close family only and then, the next day held a reception for friends at Bennetts Water Gardens, a venue in Weymouth owned by Stacey’s family. The...

Do I really need getting ready pictures?

Sometimes couples tell me that they’re not really that fussed about the getting ready pictures on the morning of the wedding. Sometimes they tell me they positively don’t want them.  I think that’s a shame. You see there’s a flow to a wedding, a story. With my documentary wedding photographer hat on that’s the thing...

Buckland House Wedding Photography, Rhian and Jamie.

A wedding at Buckland House. ‘A massive house party with a wedding in the middle’ is how Rhian described what she had planned for her wedding to Jamie at Buckland House in North Devon. When we first spoke Rhian and Jamie weren’t sure that they wanted a photographer at all at their wedding. This isn’t an...

A Wedding in Italy, Martina and Matt.

From Exeter Cathedral to a destination wedding in Italy. Almost two years in the planning and involving almost every element of the wedding changing from the initial plan from a wedding at Exeter Cathedral to a destination wedding in Italy, Martina and Matt’s wedding was a long time coming but well worth the wait.  Martina...

Wedding photography without posing.

It seems to me that the documentary approach to wedding photography is ideal for couples who don’t particularly relish being in front of the camera, at least not in any conscious way. Wedding photography often looks very generic. There are family line ups, ceremonies and first dances and endless examples of shots of couples walking...

What does Documentary Wedding Photography look like.

Documentary wedding photography seems to have become fashionable recently. At last I can say that for once in my life I’m ‘on trend’. Every day I see wedding photographers claiming the title ‘documentary wedding photographer’ and then when you look at their portfolio you don’t actually see any documentary wedding photography at all, what you...

Michael Riley Photography

I am a a multi award winning UK and destination wedding photographer. Based in Devon, I offer wedding coverage throughout the UK and anywhere else in the world for couples who like my work and approach to a wedding.

My wedding photography is entirely unposed, natural & candid. My style is documentary wedding photography or reportage wedding photography which means that I don't intervene in the day for the sake of a shot. I don't pose, interfere or otherwise fuss and faff. Everything is relaxed, laid back and fun allowing for those natural moments to come through and be recorded as memories. You get all the moments observed not orchestrated. If you like the sound of this get in touch via my contact page.
